Daniel has served as Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development at Southwestern University since August 2013. Prior to joining Southwestern, Daniel spent five years at Abilene Christian University and 22 years at Texas A&M University in career services. His other experiences include being a 5th grade teacher for three years and serving four years in the US Navy. His career services experience includes leading teams in providing professional development for students, career advising, knowledge of campus relations and recruiting strategies, developing networking events, and many other general career related areas. His role at Southwestern has given him the opportunity to lead the team through a rebranding that has ushered in many new partnerships and collaborative opportunities. While at ACU and TAMU he was part of similar rebranding processes that included opening new buildings. One concept he promotes in the mentoring/networking area is ‘cycle of life’ – where every year new students begin the metamorphosis into alumni who give back. This process has been successful through an ‘Early and Often” approach that has helped increase engagement with first and second year students seeking related experiences on their path to their first post-graduate experience and beyond.
Daniel has two degrees from Texas A&M University. He and his wife, Cathie, have been married over 40 years and have two married daughters, five grandchildren, and an Australian Shepherd named Grace.
